At the 28th of september 2007 Alisa and I married, the blue 100A was our marriage vehicle that day. That was because we both wanted the Datsun to be our marriage car. Please have a look at the pictures, they're taken on the 28th of september.

Passed the annual APK test again !

Today I went to Nissan dealer Manenschijn (http://www.datsun.nl) for the annual APK test.
This is something similar to the English MOT test.

It was a sunny day and made it a nice drive through to the woods behind Ommen in the direction Daarle.

At about 09.30 I arrived at Nissan Manenschijn at Daarle.

Mr. G.J. Manenschijn started off with the checks needed for the APK.

We also did an oil and oilfilter renewal and also renewed the brakepads of the front wheels.

This wasn't actually nessesary for the APK, but since these pads weren't that much no more, I requested for a change, just to make sure.

In the meanwhile,

while G.J. Manenschijn was busy doing the maintenance, I was allowed to have a look in the Datsun Museum that Jan Manenschijn maintains in their other companybuilding, on the other side of the Wierdenseweg, see the picture below;

Inside this building, whilst accessing the first floor, it seems that time has stood still for a while.
Here you can admire the Datsun cars from the seventies and even some sixties !

This is just a small impression of all the cars which are in the museum. I also took pictures from the interieurs of some cars which will follow later into another post of this blog.

My own 100A is ready for another year of pleasure I hope, anyway, momentarily the car runs great !

Nippon Classic Cars: Spring Ride 2007

Saturday the 5th, the car was washed en waxed for the summer ;-)
In the evening got the fueltank filled up for the NipponClassicCars meeting.

Today, sunday the 6th of may 1007 the anual spring ride took place.
This time we did not join the ride itself, but we were present at the meeting behind restaurant "De Goudreinet" in Veenendaal, the Netherlands.

Today 19 members had signed up to come over. Not everyone was there, but still there was a nice amount of people who actually showed up this time. Let's have a look at today's cars;

This picture was taken directly when we arrived, around 11:15 o'clock in the morning after a one hours drive towards Veenendaal.

At about 12:00 o'clock the springride started off so everybody got into their cars an left off.

We had a cup of coffee and spoke to another Datsun 100A owner, and his friend and son. Nice contact was made today with this peoples. We'll meet again later this year.

Then the drive back home started off, driving off the A12 towards Arnhem to get on the A50 direction Zwolle. Here's an impression of the driving;

First serious spring ride 2007

Hi there!

It has been quite a while since this blog has been updated, the good news is that my 100A is still alive as we write the 1st of April 2007.

Today was a nice day whith sunny weather, so we got the car out of the shed today.

We did a little tour in the neigbourhood here. A trip which took about a 50 kilometers.

Once out of the shed and slowly getting the engine on temperature we got on the small roads

If you think that this is a small road, then be warned, things can even get worse ;-)

With a little rest in between, looking at other oldtimers and lot's of motorbikes out there.

The next upcoming event is the Springride 2007 of nipponclassiccars from the Netherlands.

Nippon Classic Cars: Fall Ride 2006

Today the Fall ride 2006 took place, starting off in Veenendaal at restaurant "Goudreinet"

We were present today with our 100A. Many people shared us by joining the fall ride. Maybe this was because it was on Sunday instead of saturday.

Lots of japanese cars were present, Datsun, Mazda, Toyota and even Honda.

The car right to our 100A is a Datsun 1400
A real rare appearance on the Dutch roads !

This car got it's license plate on 17 june 1971 according to the dutch RDW website.
(http://www.rdw.nl) In fact we are talking about a car which is 35 years old as we write !!
This car is really in good shape.... keep it rolling!

Another red 100A was also present today. Nice to have a little talk with the owner of this car.
He uses the car frequently but just in the neighbourhood just like our own blue 100A.

Also Roy van O. was present with his 'new-born' Datsun1200. In a previous post I told you about his own website, really worth a visit to see the restore project of his beautifull car;

As you can see for yourself Roy's cars really looks like it just came off the Datsun factory :-)
This car may be considered new since he restored almost every single part of the car.

Mr. J. Manenschijn (www.datsun.nl) was also present today with a nice Datsun 280 Z sportswagon. I really needed to get a picture of its engine, the 6 cylinder in-line beast...

As said, also a Mazda 818 coupe joined us today. This is a real rare appearance nowadays

In the early 80's this was a well known car in the Netherlands.

I think it will be really hard to look after parts for this car if you need them.

The owner replaced the brakediscs and got those from Germany he told me. Still it stays a nice car !

Two other Mazda's were present today. Also a Mazda 616 and a genuine MX-2 with rotation engine was present at this days meeting.

First. let us have a look at the interior and front of this nice Mazda 818 Coupe

Notice the TEMP and FUEL meters in the middle of the console. It really looks like a very comfortable car to me. This car is actually very rare on the Dutch roads. It's owner told me he had never seen another car like this in real life nowadays, as we write 2006.

Also a very rare Toyota Landcruiser participated today, a nice 6-cylinder !

We should not forget to mention the two Datsun Laurels which are present almost every time:

During the nice ride, provided by Albert Dolleman (www.nipponclassiccars.org) we drove through the woods of Oosterbeek (Grebbeberg)

Since there also was a 'veterans' day we passed a lot of old army wheels. On the right an old authentic army ambulance passed us on the other side of the road.

Driving through Oosterbeek (near Arnhem) there was a big sign, saying welcome to the worldwar II veterans.

After passing the veterans village we had a small stop. On the parking where we stopped, I took the occasion to make a picture of the other two Mazda's joining our ride. On the left the MX-2 and on the right the Mazda 616 model.

After this break we continued driving through the woods, driving behind a Laurel.

The photo really shows some motion but in real the speed wasn't that much.

We were driving between 60 and 70 km/h on these roads.

Our 100A was driving very smoothly during this ride.

After driving this nice road I managed to take a picture in the left mirror to see the other cars lined up in a que behind our 100A

This picture shows what you would see in the mirror mounted on the door, seated behind the wheel.

There were only two Datsun Laurels in front of us, behind our 100A you'll see the other participating cars, doing todays ride.

The picture on the right shows the return to restaurant The Goudreinet about 15.30 hrs in the afternoon.

We parked next to Albert Dolleman with his nice green Datsun 1200.

Haynes Manual for Datsun 100A

I was surfing around the web an noticed a Haynes manual for sale.
I made a ridiculous offer and guess what: they agreed !

So today the postman arrived with this highly detailed book with lots of information about the engine, gearbox and electrical schematics about the 100A.
The book does not have much information about the body, it handles mostly the technics of engine and gearbox.

However, a nice to have in combination with the other books i got before ;-)

Not much has been posted in the past time. That is because of holidays and other things.
2 weeks ago my wife and I have been driving around some on a sundayafternoon while the weather was great. We drove along the small roads in the neighbourhood around here.

The next upcoming event is the yearly Nippon Classic cars ride on the 17th of september.

We hope to join the ride this time.

I also was attended on the new website of anothe NCC member, Roy van O, who actually has recovered a Datsun 1200 almost from scratch !You should visit his site to lookup the results:

Passed the yearly APK test !!

This weeks wednesday I was at Nissan dealer Manenschijn (http://www.datsun.nl) for the yearly APK checkup/test. I was very happy the car past through after a small repair which was neccesary. Only one rubber cover, from the steeringmount at the left frontwheel, needed to be replaced since it was torn open a little.

This was fixed by the real 100a guru, G.J. Manenschijn ;-)

We're happy to know the car is actually very solid and in excellent condition.

Another year to come, hopefully with lots of driving pleasure and fun.

This picture is taken after returning home. The 100A runs smoothly and got a nice grey coloured exhaust inside after this ride to Daarle.

Anyway, happy with the results of this day.

Unfortunatly I forgot my camera, while all those beautifull classic Datsun cars were out there in Manenschijn's private museum showroom. Next time I won't forget !

Missed the NipponClassicCars spring ride

Due to the circumstances I wasn't able to join the yearly spring ride.
The past week it has been very nice weather over here in the Netherlands, so today I had a ride through the landscape of the Veluwe.

You could see many yellow dandelions in the pastures, nice to see.

We have been driving the 'little roads' to enjoy the springtime. It's really amazing to notice how everything is turning green within a timeframe from about 2 weeks !!

The picture on the right is taken from behind the wheel to have an impression how it looks like on the 7th of may 2006.

These roads are situated behind the little village Heerde, a small place in my neighboorhood.

We have visited the place where a small ferry passes the river "IJssel" to sit at the waterside for a little while.

After these small roads we got in to the woods to driveby the deerpark in Epe. This was meant as a kind of driveby photo but it went not really the way I would like... so enjoy the tree tops...

This was a little impression of our today's ride. I hope there will be an opportunity to take the car with me to my work the upcoming week, that is, if the weather stays nice.

New book about Datsun Cherry

Today I received a book about the 100A.
I bought the book from the internet. It is written in Dutch, called: "Datsun Cherry - Leer 'm kennen" which actually means: Datsun Cherry - Get to know him

The book is written in kinda Mickey Mouse language so that even a 12 year old boy would understand how the car is maintained and build together.

A real nice-to-have item and handy when small repairs have to be done.

I also have the "Vraagbaak" and some ANWB book about the car. I guess enough documentation is available now.

If you need some specific technical info don't hasitate and just mail or post your question on this blog.

Last week the car has been polished with Turtle Wax for the upcoming season. Within a few weeks the "Spring Ride" event from http://www.nipponclassiccars.org will take place.
Until now 16 cars have signed up for this ride, says the newsletter from the organiser.

I probably will wear my newly self-created Datsun shirt. I got the logo from the internet and created a XXL T-Shirt on the http://www.kruidvat.nl website. Here's the result:

Spare engine found !

Whilst surfing the net looking for Datsun parts which were offered I noticed a 100A engine which was offered. It is the same engine which is fitted in my 100A.

I mailed with the person who offered the engine. He said the engine had been placed in the garagebox for more then 20 years. Relatives of him replaced the engine because of a smarting sound in the engine.

After the swap with another engine the smarting sound still was present ?!?
It seemed to be the dynamo so that in fact this engine would still be OK.
I could buy this peace of Datsun engine including gearbox for a few euros.
Thanks to the seller I have a spare engine "in stock" now. I had to look sweet to my wife Alisa first before I could get this 30 year old piece of technique ;-) into our shed at home...

Next thing to be done is to get my shed cleared.
I'm goin to create a workbench and the engine will get a place below the bench.

Still missing parts are the ignition rotor and contacthammer or breakerswitch and the ignitioncap.

Also missing are the clutching parts. Gearbox and differential are still present.

This engine will be receiving a cleaning-up later.

Next planned maintenance

It has quite been a while since this blog was updated.

The next planned maintenance for my 100a is the replacement of the radiator long which goes from the temperaturesensor towards the radiator.

This top hose is covered with canvas, which is actually getting a little loose.
That doesn't mean that the hose will tear, but as a matter of fact I would like to do this kind of maintenance in avance before it might tear during a ride.

The right picture shows the current situation:

As you can see the top hose isn't really that reliable anymore so it would be safe to fix this.
In order to do so, again Nissan dealer Manenschijn from Daarle was able to help me out by supplying the proper hose.

For those who might be interested, here is the official Nissan part number: B1501-M0206

I am very happy to have the genuine part in posession so that everything still stays original.

I don't know when this replacement is actually to be performed. Maybe it will be delayed to the spring of 2006 or I will replace the hose before the end of 2005. We'll see ;-)

Dinitrol treatment done !

September 2005 has almost passed by, the fall is approaching with faster steps everyday.

Wednesday the 28th the 100a returned from Gosliga's at Leeuwarden. All the best comes from Leeuwarden I guess, I was born there in '67 ;-)

The car has stayed over for exactly 1 week where it received its well deserved Dinitrol treatment. Now the car is protected from rust and corrosion for the next few years.

Piet Kruisinga from Gosliga (http://www.antiroest.com) said the 100a was in excellent condition. He and his personel did a very good Dinitrol job to the car.

My Datsun received also a Dinitrol treatment in 1976 when it was sold as a new car to its first owner. I know that a Dinitrol treatment is not called cheap, but right now, anno 2005, absolute proof has been made that the treatment in 1976 has done its conservation job pretty good.

So, I'm gratefull the first owner of the 100a was convinced that the car needed this treat.
Dinitrol treatment should be maintained after several years. Since the Datsun is about 30 years old and in absolute topcondition I decided to spend money on this kind of maintenance.

This is how the car looks from below right now:

On the left you see the subframe, right the rear arm on the right side of the car. Both carrying the nice lightbrown colour, protected by Dinitrol.

Knowing about the fact the fueltanks of Datsun cherry series wasn't always that solid, often caused by rust, I'm happy with the knowledge that Dinitrol is present on this fueltank.

This one won't cause problems the coming years.

After the treatment the car was cleaned well and also got a solidwax treatment.

At this moment I'm doubting to do some Excalibur wax treat, but that also might wait.

So far about the Dinitrol treatment. I'm happy to know that my 100a is in good condition and can be on the Dutch roads for some more years from now ;-)

The yearly aftersummer / fall ride

Today the yearly aftersummer / fall Datsun ride took place.

This event was organized by mr. Albert Dolleman, he is webmaster of: http://www.nipponclassiccars.org

The event started off about 11.00 AM at restaurant "Goudreinet" in Veenendaal.
This was the place where the participants gathered together to take off about 12.00

We arrived in Veenendaal at about 11.40 AM.

At the rear of the restaurant was a parkingspace which offered a nice space top make a line up with the other Datsun participants

Beside my 100a you can see a Datsun Cedric 260 and a Datsun 1200 Coupe, bothed owned by Albert and his wife, the organizers of the ride.

Beside the 1200 another 100a, from a Belgian participant, actually a member of the Belgian Nissan friends club. Have a look at their site on: http://www.datsunvriendenbelgie.com/

Also several Datsun Laurel models were participating in todays tour. A nice sound to hear when those 6-cylinder in-line engines are running.

Another participant was this nice Datsun 120Y coupe, als titled as "The Banana" by its owner.

This is a real nice looking car which also actually is in a good shape and condition.

This car is not used for daily rides.
Just like my own 100a it only comes out for funrides and events like this one today.

The 120Y is not very much spotted on the Netherlands roads anymore.
This car is in good shape.

On the right you see the same car from the backside. It really looks sporty.

Beside this car there were also a few 100A - FII types riding the tour.

These types came after the 100A series.
There were even FII models with a semi-automatic gearbox, shifting without using clutch.

My son managed to make a picture from the rear seat so you can see the other 100a FII in motion:

The man driving this car also owned a Panhardt.
That is a car from the 50's. He showed me some pics of his other car which actually looked very nice.

It was a nice ride, though the weather was changing a lot. Mostly we had dry and sunny weather but sometimes real big raindrops came down.

Since the elements cannot be reserved whe had to do with the weather as it was.

In front of us the orange Datsun 1200 coupe. In front of them the Belgian 100a.

In front of them a 100a FII model.

On the right you have a look in my left mirror.
Here we were waiting for the other cars to gather together, in order to continue the ride.

This pictures were taken in the nice surrounding of the little roads in the neighbourhood of Veenendaal, the Netherlands.

After driving around there was a little stop, for the sanitary and have a drink.

This was after our visit to the village center of Zeist.
Here you can see the both 100A's, joining today's ride.

The Belgian participant came from the neigbourhood of Antwerpen - Hasselt so he actually had a long ride today with his to daughters in the back seat.

He noticed a little noise in his engine and wasn't sure what was causing this noise.
It occured only at lower rpms, above 2000 rpm it was gone...

At about 16:30 the ride was finished and we went back home with the 100a on the A12 highway.

It was no problem at all to do 120 km/h constantly with myself and my three kids in the car.

As always the engine runned very well and the car had no problems to do today's ride.

After today's trip the car received a washing and got back into its garage.

Today was a nice day, nice to meet other Datsun minded people and see their cars and discuss.

We've had a good time and we'll be back on the next upcoming spring ride in 2006.

Saturday's washing day

Today just a regular wash, ready for the weekend:

The Excalibur wax by Valma seems to be very solid.
After the car wash, many drops of water dripped off the hood.

In about one month from now the 100a will go to the antirust center to receive the dinitrol treatment. After this treatment I think a new Excalibur waxing would be nice.

Today's ride

Today I took the 100a with me when I went to work. The distance is about 50 km to get there and 50 km back home.

It was some good Datsun weather today. No rain and sunny, it was about 25 degrees.

On the highway, the A28, i drove about 110 - 120 km/h.

Some guy in a Nissan Micra passed me by and put his thumb up to show he liked the sight of a nearly 30 years old car of the same brand like his car ;-)

Many times you see people smiling when they see the car driving around.

The 100a did very well and the engine was spinning like a happy satisfied cat ;-)
The engine of my Datsun really runs good and the gearbox operates smoothly.

The car needed 7,6 liters of fuel to do today's 100 km ride.

Also today the appointment was made for an anti-rust treatment with Dinitrol.
In september the 100a is going to get the complete treatment to make sure rust won't have a chance the next coming few years.

Found some 'new' old parts

This week I received a box with some parts found on the internet.
These parts are "in stock" now , just in case they're needed.

If you are a 100a owner and you need something that you see on this page, feel free to contact me or leave a comment on this blog.

Here is a little overview of the parts which are available for a nice price:

This is a rightsided tail light for the first 100A series.
Produced from 1970 - 1971 as far as I know. This is the "small" version.

This is a complete unit complete with cableconnector.
I have only 1 unit, right side. Available for sale.

This is the fanswitch/sensor which is situated at the bottomside of the radiator in the front of the car.

I also heard that it was very common to have this switchcontacts bridged in the summertime to have a constant forced cooling on the radiator since the radiator in the 100a isn't very big equipped.

The radiatorfan is also available as spare part.
This is the original 100a radiatorfan.

As you might notice on the picture there is some dust on the radiatorfan and mounting. The fan itself is actually in excellent condition.

If you might need this part, it is available for sale.

In orde to complete the story about the coolingsystem, here is also a radiator capsule.

This part is, just like the others, available for sale if you might need it.

There also is the Datsun sign which is mounted on the front grill of the car. It just needs a little painture before getting remounted.

The flashlights are from the older series, just like the tail lamp on the picture on top of this posting. The left lamp has a little damage.
These lights also have a tranparent spot on the bottom side, on this picture. I don't know on what purpose this transparant spot was used. Maybe is was used for licenseplate luminance.

This is the flashlight used on the "later" types, the second generation of the 100a, starting off 1972 and later.

These lamps do not have the transparent spot as shown on the older serie.

This is the same type light which is also mounted on my own 100a from 1976.

Then we have the two emblems which were mounted on the rear sides of the car.

On the first series these were used later replaced by the ventilation gratings.

The later used ventilation covers looked like this:

Did a little repair

The car had a very old lightbrown carcarpet on the inside. Today this is changed into a nice black car carpet. This gives a much better look on the interieur of the car. So, in my opinion, a nice improvement on the 100a was made with this new carpet.

The 100a also suffered from a little oil leakage. This was caused by a leaking oil pressureswitch.
This switch sends the signal to the oilpressure control lamp in the dashboard.

This switch is situated beneath the oilfilter and was easy to replace. Thanks to Nissan Dealer Manenschijn from Daarle, The Netherlands, ( http://www.manenschijn.nl ) I was able to get a brand new switch and fix the oil leakage with this part.

The partnumber of the switch is: 25240-89902 and is available as new part.
On the picture you'll see the new switch mounted on on the bracket right under the oil filter.

The leakage of a few little oildrops is now history and this is nice knowledge for me ;-)
